Looks like it’s finally time to make this blogging thing official, yeah? As promised, I’m going to start to cover my latest trip to Japan. This is likely to be split over several parts, so grab your popcorn and strap in. We’ve got a lot to cover.
In October 2014, I journeyed to Japan for the first time. There’s no doubt that I was enamored with the place. The trip was, simply put, one of the funnest and most fulfilling experiences of my life. It really felt like the culmination of all my hobbies finally coming to life, and seeing both the pop culture and the “real” culture of Japan was simply a thrill. That trip will hold a special place in my heart for the rest of my life, no doubt. I even felt so strongly about it that I wrote these absurdly long, detailed blog postings on my tumblr over the course of a year to chronicle the whole thing. I promise that these new writings will not be as long, and I won’t take a year to finish them.
Not to spoil the new adventure, but if you watched my Twitter while I was there, you know this trip was not quite the magical experience of last time. There were… issues. I’d even say there were a lot of issues. If you’re looking for someone to pontificate about how amazing Japan is and excuse every issue with “it’s Japan bro”, I’m not your guy. This trip allowed me the opportunity to do a lot of cool things and I fully intend to express my excitement and joy, but it would be simply incomplete if I didn’t discuss what went wrong as well. I intend to portray it as it was experienced. Some days were great, and others were very much not. I hope in some way or another, it’s all entertaining for you to read. Let’s get started!
